Vehicles in German Town Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Police reported they were notified by a man who noticed a car in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials state initial examinations show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.

A high-ranking representative stated the incident left him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.

"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
